The Erftverband is backed by its about 250 members from municipalities, counties, the public water supply, the mining and electricity industry, commercial and industrial enterprises, agriculture and fishery. Membership is regulated by the “Erftverbandsgesetz” and its statute. The members are divided into groups:
• Brown coal mining industry
• Power generation sector
• Communities
• Administrative districts
• Companies and other agencies sponsoring the public water supply
• Commercial enterprises
• Chamber of Agriculture
• Erft Fishing Association
In 1993 an amendment of the “Erftverbandsgesetz” led to a form of organisation according to stock corporation law. Accordingly, the Association has three corporate institutions: the Assembly of Associates, the Board of Associates and the Executive Board.
Assemby of Associates
The Assembly of Associates consists of 102 delegates, elected or sent by the members. The term of office is five years. The Assembly of Associates correlates to the annual general meeting of a public limited company.
The Assembly of Associates approves the economic plan, the statute, membership fees, major investments and division of responsibilities and it elects the members of the Board of Associates.
Board of Associates
The Board of Associates (comparable to a company’s Supervisory Board), consists of 15 members, elected by the Assembly of Associates for a period of five years. It complies with the decisions of the Assembly of Associates.
The Association Board elects and supervises the Executive Board. It also elects the head of division responsible for personnel and social affairs of the Erftverband.
